ORFF SCHULWERK: ACTIVITIES TO USE
IN THE CLASSROOM
Please join us for an extraordinary session with Jay Broeker, an expert
in Orff Schulwerk. Our activities will be simple
and easy to implement immediately into your classroom. Together
we will learn not only exciting songs, games and activities,
but also why they are important and how they relate to our entire curriculum.
You won't want to miss this outstanding session!
Your students will be very excited to experience these new ideas!
JANUARY 18, 2003
"The Sequence of Short, Long, and Silence"
a visual and kinesthetic approach.
Presenter Jenny Cooper will share with us in the morning a process for
teaching rhythmic notation, which includes movement,
instrument playing, reading, and drawing. This practical approach
is introduced during the kindergarten year and
expanded with each succeeding year. Participants
will actively partake ineach of the sequential steps.
Handbell/Handchime Technique and Integration in the Orff
Curriculum
The afternoon workshop will be a general overview of handbells/handchimes
and their use in the
classroom. Participants will be introduced to basic ringing technique
on bells and chimes, and
view notation that is unique to bells. Activities and lessons
incorporating bells and chimes
will demonstrate the ease and enjoyment that bells and chimes provide
students. Handbell and
handchime resources and methods will be shared followed by a question
and answer session.
The workshop requires no previous handbell experience, but will encourage
educators to
implement bells and chimes into their own curriculum.

AFRICAN HAND DRUMMING FROM AFRICA TO AMERICA
Come explore the world of West African hand drumming from it's roots in
the heart of Mother Africa to it's applications
in education, therapy and community/team building in America today.
Together we will learn fun and easy West African
polyrhythms on Nigerian ashiko hand drums along with African songs
and dance steps. Fons will show you how to discover
your own personal 'drum song' and the art of improvisation in a drum
circle setting. We will also discuss the role drumming
plays in West Africa and how it came to the United States, as well
as view footage of traditional West African drumming
and dance.
