GOALS / OBJECTIVES -
Section 01 of Music in Childhood Education (520:102g) is designed to provide
teaching activities for integrating music into the elementary classroom,
utilizing a variety of media, techniques and approaches. Each student
will be expected to create ideas, activities and lesson plans on their own,
applying numerous methods or techniques. Each student will identify
the various elements of music. Each student will understand the importance
of “process” when teaching musical concepts. Each student will be introduced
to appropriate musical presentation in singing, piano, recorder, autoharp
and omnichord. The relationship of music with the other arts and curricular
areas will also be a focal point of the class. Each student will teach
young children appropriate (self authored) music activities. Each student
will gain an understanding of (a) how to, and (b) why it is important to
integrate music into the classroom, based on the National Standards.
Each student will learn about active student learning in a caring, comfortable
community atmosphere.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS -
