Human Anatomy & Physiology

Course Outline

Text Book: Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology, 8th Edition by Elaine N. Marieb

My philosophy for this course is built on breadth of coverage versus depth of understanding. In Anatomy & Physiology, if I were to emphasize depth of understanding, we could easily spend two years studying the structure and function of the Human Body. My goal is to expose students to all aspects of the Human Body (or organ systems). I do not focus on memorization of the vast amount of information contained in the text.

All of the Review Questions at the end of each chapter must be completed. I have found that those students who put more time, effort and detail into their answers seem to have an easier time going through the Chapter Exam. Diagrams and worksheets will also be assigned (as appropriate) for each chapter. All assignments must be completed and turned in before you begin working on the Chapter Exam. Because my emphasis is on exposure rather than memorization, exams are open book and take home. In most instances, students will be given the test on a Friday and are expected to return it on Monday morning.

A packet covering Latin terminology that accompanies each of the Chapters in Human Anatomy and Physiology will be handed out at the beginning of each chapter. It is your responsibility to review this material, make flashcards that will help you study/memorize the terms, and complete the worksheets at the end of each packet. A practice quiz for each of the Latin Packets is available for you to download. A quiz will be given over each Latin packet prior to the Chapter Exam.
