Notes from the Committee/Parent Meeting

on

February 9, 2004

Treasurer's report and minutes from the last meeting were not available.

Don Goeres gave a report on Scout Sunday. He said some scouts did not
follow through on what they said they were going to do. Next year, he hopes
to have more Boy Scouts involved. Jean Simmet said coffee and donuts was
very successful and that the scouts received a lot of compliments from
parish members.

Tom Klenske said he took his Cub Scouts to the Klondike Derby and it was
a good event. There was discussion about how to interest the Boy Scouts in
participating next year.

There was a discussion about the Troop purchasing insurance since the
council will no longer provide it. The Troop can purchase accident insurance
for $1.50 per scout but someone from the troop has to fill out all the
paperwork. It was decided to check with everyone to see if there is a family
that doesn't have insurance, and if anyone wants to purchase the extra
insurance.

Leadership elections will be held at the Feb. 23 meeting. Scouts will
take their new positions after the March 8 meeting. Boys need to think about
what positions they want.

The Court of Honor will be March 7 with a 4:30 p.m. potluck followed by
a 5:30 p.m. awards ceremony in the St. Pat's Cafeteria. We will try to have
a quick parents meeting. It will also take the place of the March 8 troop
meeting. If there isn't time to meet for the citizenship merit badges, the
boys working on those will meet on March 8.

There was a discussion about the Joe Blanshan Plaque. The group directed
Joyce Mader to buy a plaque from Iowa Sports Supply for $25. She will get it
engraved and select photos to be used.

Talks are continuing with Dale Folkers on where to put an Eagle Scout
Plaque.

Dennis Francik made a motion and Doug Case second the motion to purchase
equipment to repair tents at Shell Rock Hardware.

Tom Klenske provided information on Summer Camp. Dates are July 4 to 10.
Camp funds are due April 1. He asked for other adults to sign up for the
dates they plan to attend.
Dennis Francik and Marty Robertson presented information on the High
Adventure Trip to Civil War Battle Fields, Washington D.C. and the
Appalachian Trail. The trip will be from July 18 to July 27 or 28. In
Washington D.C., the group will visit the White House, the Mall/Memorials,
Arlington National Cemetery and the Smithsonian. Cost is $600 per person.
They need a commitment from people interested in going as soon as possible
so that they can secure camping facilities and accurately plan the trip.
They also need ideas for fundraisers to help cover expenses. Trip
information will be presented at the March 7 Court of Honor.
